Aliyah AtlasKnow the neighbourhood before you move

Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information is processed when you use Aliyah Atlas (aliyahatlas.com, "the site"), why, and what your rights are.

1. In short

2. Who is responsible

The site is run by private individuals in Israel ("the site operators", "we"). We decide how the information described here is used, so we are the controller of that information. You can reach us through the contact page; choose "A privacy request". If you ask through the form, we will tell you the name of the person responsible and how to contact them directly.

3. What stays in your browser

The site saves two small settings in your browser's local storage: your language choice (aa_lang) and the fact that you accepted the disclaimer (aa_ack_v1). They are needed only to show the site the way you chose. They are never sent to us. You can delete them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

The site sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising tools, and makes no profile of you.

4. Map tiles (OpenFreeMap)

When a page shows a map, your browser loads the map images ("tiles") from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org). Like any web request, OpenFreeMap's servers, and Cloudflare, which OpenFreeMap uses, receive your IP address and the map area requested. OpenFreeMap states that it has no user database and uses no cookies. We do not receive this data.

Legal basis (where the EU GDPR applies): our legitimate interest in showing you the map you asked for (Art. 6(1)(f)).

Links marked "Open in Google Maps" or "Google Maps" open Google's site in a new tab, only when you click them. The link carries only the coordinates of the place; from then on Google's privacy policy applies. Nothing is sent to Google before you click.

5. Hosting and security

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare, Inc. is a US company with a global network. Like any web server, Cloudflare's servers receive your IP address and technical request data, such as the page requested, the time and your browser type. Cloudflare uses this data on our behalf to deliver the site and to protect it from attacks and abuse. We keep no server logs of our own.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in delivering a secure website.

6. The contact form

When you send the contact form, we store in our database (Cloudflare D1):

We do not store your IP address or any other identifier of your device. To block mass sending, the form uses a temporary code derived from your IP address, which is kept only in the server's memory for a few minutes and never saved.

You are not legally required to give us any information; it is up to you. Without a message, we cannot handle a request, and without an email address we cannot reply. Please do not include sensitive details, such as health information or identity documents, or other people's personal details.

Legal basis: handling the request you sent us (our legitimate interest). For privacy requests: complying with our legal obligations.

7. Personal details that the site publishes from official sources

To help newcomers reach local services, the site shows contact details that public bodies publish as open data:

We show these details as they appear in the official data and for the same purpose. If your details appear on the site and you want them corrected or removed, please tell us through the contact form. We will correct or remove them promptly. You can also ask the public body that published them.

For home-based daycare we show neither the caregiver's name nor the exact location. Daycare centres and kindergartens are shown without their names, under a generic label ("Kindergarten", "Daycare"), with their stream.

8. What we don't do

We don't show ads, sell or rent data, build profiles, make automated decisions about you, or use advertising or social-media pixels.

9. International transfers

We are in Israel. The European Commission recognises Israel as providing an adequate level of protection for personal data (Decision 2011/61/EU, confirmed in its January 2024 review). Cloudflare is a US company and may process data in the USA and in other countries. Cloudflare states that it protects such transfers with recognised mechanisms, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.

10. How long we keep data

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right:

These rights come, for example, from the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and from Israel's Privacy Protection Law 1981.

To make a request, use the contact form and choose "A privacy request". Because we store no identifiers, we can find your data only from what you tell us, for example the email address you used. We aim to answer within 30 days. We may ask for details needed to confirm that the request is yours.

You may also complain to a data protection authority: in France, the CNIL; in another EU or EEA country, the authority of that country; in Israel, the Privacy Protection Authority.

12. Children

The site is meant for adults planning a move. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you are under 16, please do not send us your email address or other personal details.

13. Security

The site is served only over HTTPS, uses strict browser security settings, collects as little data as possible, and limits access to contact messages to the site operators.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The date below shows the latest version. To the extent permitted by law, the Hebrew version prevails if the language versions differ.
