Credits and Licences
Aliyah Atlas is built on public data from official Israeli sources and on the work of the OpenStreetMap community and other open projects. Thank you. This page explains whose data we use and under which terms. The full list of datasets, with dates and links, is on the Sources page.
1. Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS)
Source: the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), including the Population and Housing Census 2022 on statistical areas, the localities file and the socio-economic index 2021 (publication 1955); dates on the Sources page. The data is copied and processed as is, under the CBS open-data licence. The processing, the combinations and the labels are the site's own work: they are not official CBS figures, and the CBS has not reviewed or approved them.
2. Government open data (data.gov.il)
The site uses open datasets published on data.gov.il by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Religious Services, the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, the Be'er Sheva municipality and the National Digital Agency. Each dataset is credited by name and date on the Sources page. They are used under the data.gov.il terms of use, which allow reuse with credit to the source.
3. Other official aggregate data
The community character estimate also uses other official aggregate public data at a finer geographic resolution, weighted by proximity. Only the resulting label and its confidence level are shown.
4. OpenStreetMap
Streets, neighbourhood names, synagogues, yeshivot and kollelim, kosher eateries, community centres and some mikvaot come from OpenStreetMap: © OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.
5. Open data offer (ODbL)
The site's data files that contain OpenStreetMap data, including the layers where OpenStreetMap data was combined with official lists (synagogues and mikvaot), form a derived database. That derived database is made available under the Open Database License 1.0. Any rights in its individual contents are licensed under the Database Contents License 1.0. You may download, reuse and share it under that licence, with the credit "© OpenStreetMap contributors; Aliyah Atlas".
Download and description of the files: aliyah-atlas-odbl.zip — synagogues, mikvaot and every other OpenStreetMap-derived layer (GeoJSON) · description of the files (README) · licence text
6. Maps
Map tiles: OpenFreeMap, © OpenMapTiles, data from OpenStreetMap. Map styles: OpenFreeMap "Positron", derived from the CARTO basemaps designed by Stamen and Paul Norman (CC BY 3.0), and OpenFreeMap "Dark". Map library: MapLibre GL JS (BSD-3-Clause), with the right-to-left text plugin (BSD-2-Clause).
7. Fonts
Rubik and Assistant, under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. They are served from this site.
8. Texts
The texts on the site were written by the site operators, some of them with the help of AI tools.
